Mita Kundu, a gifted vocalist from Kolkata, India hails from a spiritual Bengali family of musicians. She received her first singing lesson at the age of six, from her father, Mr. Indubhusan Gupta, a direct disciple of “sangeet guru” Usha Ranjan Mukhopadhya. Later Mita continued her learning  from her uncle Sri Baroda Gupta, well known in West Bengal as the "saint singer".

Mita holds the prestigious degrees of "Sangeet Prabhakar" and "Sangeet Bibhakar".  She earned BMuse with honors in Rabindrasangeet in 1985 from Rabindra Baharati University (founded by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore) in Kolkata.Mita received "Geetabharati" degree with honors from Geetabitan, which stands out as one of the most renowned schools of Rabindrasangeet in Kolkata today.

Mita is fortunate to be one of the most beloved disciples of legendary teacher, singer Smt. Maya Sen. Mita also received personal training from Pundit Sukumar Mitra and Pundit Smt. Lakshmi Sankar. 

Mita never failed to awe her teachers and audiences alike, with her god gifted voice and abilities.

In 1967, Mita became one of the youngest members of "Our Orchestra", founded in 1939, by "Sangeet Acharyya" Sri Surendranath Roy.
